Lexus IS

I like the assertive styling, top-notch interior, and front seats which fit snugly for a starting price of $40,200. The car comes in five trims. Even though we’re most captivated by the top-performing IS500 trim, its price is somewhat steep. This five-seat sedan has a max speed of 143mph.

If price is a factor, the mid-range IS350 F Sport with RWD presents most of the car’s performance allures.

As well to sportier looks and performance features, the F Sport package adds wider rear tires, distinctive 19-inch wheels, and an F Sport exhaust as well as a cold air intake and a limited-slip rear differential.

2022 IS offers three engine options: a 241-hp turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the IS300, a 311-hp V-6 in the IS350, and most recently, a 472-hp V-8 in the IS500 F Sport Performance model. That engine isn’t for me.

The V-8-powered IS500 variant requires 4.3 seconds to go from 0-60 mph in comparison to the RWD IS350 F Sport’s 5.6 seconds. The IS300 gets 21/31 mpg in the city and highway, while the V-6 IS350 gets 19/28 mpg and the IS500 gets 17/25 mpg.

Here are a few cars similar to the Lexus IS in various ways, including:

  • Body styles
  • Pricing
  • Interior
  • MPG
  • Drivetrain and more

1. 2022 BMW 3 Series

A photo of black bmw sereies parked.

A total of 15 trims are available for the 2022 BMW 3 Series, with prices ranging from $41,450 to $76,900. Even though it is a pleasure to drive and has plenty of room inside, the understated quality of the cabin prevents it from reaching the top of our list of the best luxury small cars.

My favorite features are the multiple powerful engine options, the unpredictable handling, and the huge trunk with two rows of seats that are both large and comfortable for a vehicle in this class.

However, it’s not as lavish as some of its rivals. The M3’s instrument cluster now includes a digital display as standard equipment for 2022, and an all-wheel drive is a selectable option.

The 5-seater has RWD and AWD drivetrains and seats 16-26 in the city and 23-36 on the highway. In just 4.1 seconds, it goes from 0-60mph to 155mph.

2. 2022 Genesis G70

Side view of genesis g70 car at the side of city street.

Starting at just $37,525, the Genesis G70 is a luxurious compact car that’s in the affordable range. As much as it’s delightful to drive, it’s not the most spacious vehicle in its class.

The inside design is beautiful, the handling is outstanding, and the power is always available. V6’s infotainment system is easy to use, but the rear seats are cramped and the trunk is small.

The manual transmission has been phased away for 2022, while the interior and exterior aesthetics have been revised.

You can get 17-21 city/25-31 highway mpg with the RWD or AWD drivetrain in this five-seater. At 145 mph, it has a top speed of 252 horsepower and can go from 0-60 in seven seconds flat.

3. 2022 Audi A5

Front view photo of white brand new audi a5 car display.

It’s hard to believe that the MSRP of the 2022 Audi A5 ranges from $43,500 to $76,200. The Audi A5 impresses me with its impressive output from a variety of powerful engines and its quick handling. In addition, the interior is sumptuous and feature-rich.

Exciting engine options, dynamic handling, and a smooth, comfortable ride characterize this vehicle, as does the improved cabin quality.

Although the information technology elements are simple to use, they come with a price tag. The trunk space in the coupes and convertibles is limited. The RS 5’s options and packages will be more simplified in 2022, featuring wireless Android Auto.

Seating for 4-5 people, a range of 18-25 in the city and 25-34 on the highway, and a range of 201-444hp on its AWD powertrain are included. In 6.8 seconds, it goes from zero to 60 miles per hour.

4. Audi A4

Front view of black audi a4 car taken during sunset.

The A4’s MSRP ranges from $39,900 to $51,900 with a range of 252-365 horsepower.

Additionally, I appreciate that the 2022 Audi A4 includes a powerful engine and a well-balanced driving experience, as well as an attractive interior. However, the trunk space is just enough.

There is a touch screen interface that is straightforward and intuitive to operate, and the inside has a high-end feel that is both comfy and luxurious. Not much has changed in terms of the year 2022.

The AWD drivetrain of this five-seater offers 201-349 horsepower in nine different models, delivering 20-25 city/28-34 highway mpg. In just over five seconds, it goes from zero to sixty miles per hour.

5. BMW 4-Series

Front and side view of black bmw 4 series car in the street full of dry leaves.

The 2022 BMW 4 Series has 14 trim levels with MSRPs ranging from $45,200 to $86,300. Other than in a few select luxury compact cars, this is a unique marriage of design and performance. I like that it has a lot of power, athletic handling, and a luxurious cabin that’s filled with cutting-edge technology.

Acceleration and handling are well-balanced; the Gran Coupe has a wide load compartment, and there is a long list of standard features to choose from.

There are significant downsides to this plane, though, including a hefty base price and an uninspiring cabin.

The 4/5-seater has a 16-26 city, 23-34 highway, and RWD/AWD drivetrain. In 4.4 seconds, it reaches 60mph from a standstill, and its top speed is 130mph.

6. 2022 Mercedes-Benz C Class

Side view of white mercedes benz c class car in the road.

From $44,600 to $48,550, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C Class is available in three distinct model levels. It is at the top of our list of the best little luxury cars. Meanwhile, although it has plenty of power, comfort, and style, the car’s handling is only ordinary.

With features like a 360-degree video system, a self-parking function, wireless charging for smartphones, plus a Burmester premium music system, I believe the Exclusive trim level will appeal to the widest possible group of buyers.

The turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder pushing 255-hp and powering all 2022 C-class cars is known as the C300 and appears on the trunk lid of each vehicle. A 48-volt hybrid setup boosts the turbo four’s power by up to 20 horsepower. According to Mercedes-Benz, the C300 can reach 60 mph in only six seconds.

132 miles per hour is the top speed limited to, and it can reach 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.

7. 2022 Kia Stinger

A photo of red kia stinger in desert place.

Pricing for the 2022 Kia Stinger ranges from $36,090 to $53,490 for its six trims. Its powerful engines, roomy load space, and user-friendly technologies help the Stinger place in the upper half of the competitive premium small vehicle sector.

The available turbocharged engines as well as the wealth of standard information and driver assistance features appeal to me. There is a lot of room in the cargo space, and the base price is inexpensive for the class.

The design of the interior and exterior has been revised for the year 2022. A 10.25-inch touch screen and other basic active safety measures are among the included active safety features.

Using an AWD drivetrain, the five-seater can reach 17-22 mpg city and 24-32 mpg highway, with AWD delivering 300-368 horsepower. It has a top speed of 167 mph and takes 4.7 seconds to reach 60 mph.

8. Acura TLX

CLose up photo of white acura tlx car in auto show.

A sleek, high-end luxury sedan, this year’s Acura TLX is a standout model. The Audi A7 has it all: a powerful engine, nimble handling, and top safety ratings. I like the car’s sportier design.

If you take the TLX for a quick ride, you’ll be noticed by other drivers. The 22/31 MPG fuel economy and the 272 hp of the 2.0 turbo four-cylinder engine aren’t exactly great. There is an option for a V6 engine, which boosts horsepower to about 350.

Getting to 60 mph takes just 5.1 seconds with the V6 engine, which has a top speed of 173 miles per hour. A big selling point of the TLX is its starting price of $44,450. At this low price, the TLX gives fantastic value. There are four distinct levels of trim to pick from.

The technology model and higher come equipped with front and rear sensors, blind-spot recognition, and reverse cross-traffic warning. It gets a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

9. 2022 Cadillac CT4

A photo of cadillac ct4 car with other cars background.

The Cadillac CT4 starting prices range from $33,695 to $58,995 for the 248-503 horsepower model. That’s for five different trim levels. The CT4’s impressive acceleration and grin-inducing driving are hampered by a cramped and claustrophobic interior.

No overall rating or score can be given because it has not been thoroughly tested in terms of crash safety or reliability. In any case, here’s what you get:

  • Powertrain options that excite
  • The car’s suspension and steering are perfectly in sync.
  • Quite a few active safety features come pre-installed.
  • The infotainment system is easy to operate.
  • The backseats are squeezed in tight.
  • A small trunk is available
  • The quality of the inside and the cabin structure isn’t the best.

For the year 2022, what’s in store? Check out the CT4 Blackwing’s top-of-the-line CT4 Super Cruise, which is now available in a variety of new trim levels.

There are standard amenities such as wireless device charging, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam lighting.

In the city, it has a mog of 16-23, while on the highway, it has a mog of 24-34. A 235-325-horsepower drivetrain with both RWD and AWD options is available.

10. 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Side photo of blue alfa romeo giulia at the side street.

There are seven model levels of the 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia, ranging in price from $42,950 to $78,830 MSRP. Even while Alfa Romeo Giulia’s sturdy powertrains and decent handling make it a capable driver’s car, the interior isn’t as up-to-date or luxurious as those of many other luxury small cars.

I appreciate the exciting handling, powerful engines that deliver a smooth ride, and supportive front seats, but the rear seats are cramped and the price is exorbitant. The Veloce trim has taken the place of the sporty features and specifications for 2022.

This five-seater has a 280-505hp RWD and AWD drivetrain that can provide 17-24 city and 25-33 highway miles per gallon, depending on driving conditions. To reach 60 miles per hour, you must sprint for around three seconds less than that.

11. Volvo S60

Front view of white volvo s60 car photographed in the road.

The MSRP for the 2021 Volvo S60 is between $38,950 and $64,800. Each trim level has a distinct number of features and options available.

There is a lot to like about the 2021 Volvo S60, but its short trunk prevents it from making our list of the best small luxury vehicles. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great option for the Lexus IS.

The interior craftsmanship is of the finest level, the five-seater comfort is great, and the strong engines are a big draw for me, too. The car has a smaller trunk, but it is equipped with a wider range of basic driver-aid features.

The Volvo S60’s FWD and AWD drivetrains produce 250-415 hp and deliver 21-23 mpg in the city and 32-34 mpg on the interstate. It has a top speed of 112 mph and a 4.7-second acceleration to 60 mph.

12. Jaguar XF

A photo of jaguar car in street.

Aside from the neatly constructed inside and responsive handling, there’s a lot to like about this car. The P250S is the cheapest of the three trims, starting at $46,450.

It’s possible to get an XF with one of two turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The P300 has 296 horsepower, compared to the P250’s 246 horsepower. Engines with less power can only be selected with rear or all-wheel drive (RWD or AWD).

The Jaguar XF gives you a max speed of 121mph and a coined fuel consumption of 28 mpg. The rear-wheel-drive XF is touted to get fuel economy up to 25 mpg city/ 33 mpg interstate in mixed driving.

13. 2022 Lexus RC

A photo of red lexus rc car in the middle of circle platform on auto show.

The Lexus RC 2022 has starting prices ranging from $42,470 to $101,095 for a total of ten distinct options for customizing your vehicle. The Lexus RC 2022 is a luxury compact car ranked at the bottom of the field.

It lacks the agility, cargo space in the back, and ease of use of the infotainment system that rivals offer. The optional engines offer:

  • A lot of power
  • The expected reliability score is extremely high
  • A comprehensive list of standard attributes
  • Great interior design qualities
  • There are a few drawbacks, including cramped rear seats and an expensive starting price.

The four-seater can get up to 21mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway, and its horsepower ranges from 241 to 472 lb-ft. It’s possible to have an all-wheel-drive vehicle or a vehicle with a rear-wheel-drive setup. The top speed is 170mph and it sprints from 0-60mph in 3.96 seconds.

14. 2022 Acura ILX

Back and side view of white color acura ilx.

The 2022 Acura ILX comes in four trim levels with MSRPs ranging from $26,500 to $32,400. In this vehicle, you will have a comfortable ride.

The car gets excellent gas mileage, the ride is smooth, and the purchase price is affordable. The rear seats are cramped and the information system is difficult to use, making for a disappointing driving experience.

FWD powering this five-passenger vehicle gives you access to City 34 and Highway 24. This car can reach speeds of up to 130 miles per hour and sprints from 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds.

15. 2022 Infiniti Q50

Close up photo of new 2022 infiniti q50 car in auto show.

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 is priced between $42,100 and $57,950 with 255-503 horsepower. There are six different trim levels.

It’s sturdy and the chairs are plush, which is a plus for me. In contrast to some of its rivals, it lacks the agility and modernity of many of them.

The powerful engines and roomy, comfortable seats are appealing, but the vehicle’s handling and ride quality are underwhelming.

Disgruntled with the in-vehicle entertainment system

The 5-seater gets 19-20mpg in the city and 26-29mpg on the highway with an RWD powertrain and a 300-400hp engine. In 4.5 seconds, it goes from zero to 60 miles per hour.
