2022 Audi Q3

Manufactured by Germany’s Audi AG, the 2022 Audi Q3 is the luxury automotive manufacturer’s smallest and latest SUV.

Although Audi’s smallest and latest SUV, the 2022 Audi Q3 offers the same amazing, graceful experience as its siblings. For the 2022 Audi Q3 line-up, there are FOUR trim levels for buyers to choose from. These are the Premium 40, Premium 45, Premium Plus 40, and the Premium Plus 45.

Over the years, the Audi Q3 has undergone many updates. Consequently, this second generation of the Audi Q3 is visually self-confident and offers you many practical extras.  For 2022, the Q3 model adds new standard equipment in 2022.

These include new aluminum interior trim, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto-dimming exterior mirrors that fold, an integrated garage door opener, and parking sensors-among others.

Lined with many of the same fine materials and technological features that decorate the more expensive Q5, Q7, and Q8 crossovers, the A3 looks equally expensive on the outside.

Despite this, however, Q3 uniquely offers a more youthful ambiance than her more expensive stable mates. Moreover, its chassis delivers a more nimble feel than the larger Audi SUVs do.

In terms of speed, the A3 is 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7.4 seconds.

The current Q3 is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This makes for either 184- or 228-hp. It comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive.

All are worth the A3’s cost price range of between $38,000 and $43,000.

The number of seats comes standard at five, with eight-way power front seats with memory for the driver. The cabin is also more spacious than the previous model, but the Q3’s back seat still lacks sufficient legroom to keep adults comfortable on long trips.

Fuel consumption for the 2022 Audi A3 is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen . Currently, it consumes up to 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

The 2022 Audi Q3 carries a braked towing capacity of up to 2000 Kg. However, I advise checking with the manufacturer or your vehicle’s handbook before attempting to tow anything-especially on the heavy side.

7 Cars Similar to the Audi Q3

The Audi Q3’s features and specs put it in comparative step with its key rivals, similar to that of…

1. 2022 Volvo XC40

Front and side view of volvo xc40 car in a white color at the parking near river.

The Volvo XC40 From the Volvo family is similar to the Audi Q3 in many respects. Like the Audi Q3, it is also a fashionably attractive small SUV. Its entry-level model, the T4, is also powered by a 184-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, similar to the Q3’s, while its T5 version offers 248 horsepower, 20 hp more than the Q3, but within the same horsepower range.

What I found impressive is the XC40’s arsenal of tech, which includes driver assists such as the Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode. Akin to the Q3, my favorite Volvo XC40, the T5 R-Design features a panoramic roof and a sporty appearance.

Both come with standard all-wheel drive. The more powerful T5, like the Q3’s Quattro, pairs exclusively with all-wheel drive, and does 0 to 60 mph at an impressively quick 6.2 seconds. 1.2 seconds faster than the Q3.

Similar to the Q3, beneath the hood of every XC40 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder giving either 184 or 248 horsepower depending on whether it is a T4 or T5, respectively. The eight-speed automatic transmission handles as it should, automatically.

And how much do you have to splurge on the Volvo XC40? Interestingly, you don’t have to spend that much more than the Q3. At just over $36,000 and above, the XC40 is surprisingly less than the Q3, but within range.

Like the Q3, the Volvo XC40 comes standard with five seats, and fuel consumption will depend on the model. Generally, however, it is available with the following fuel types: Hyb/PULP, Electric, and PULP. Yes, it has an electric variant, Volvo XC40 Recharge, where the Q3 does not.

The Volvo XC40’s towing capacity ranges from 1500kg to 2100kg, very much in the same range as the Q3’s 2000kg. All the same, I encourage you to check with both your manual and dealer, before attempting to tow anything too heavy.

2. 2021 Mercedes GLA

Side view photo of white mercedes benz gla 250 car in the middle of road.

Similar to the Audi Q3, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA-class SUV is also all-wheel drive, although this is optional. Like the Q3, it too seemingly sacrifices practicality for a swoopy roofline and added curb appeal.  Unmistakably though, and bold, with a stylish yet gentle grille, taut back end, and rear light cluster, like the Q3, the new GLA is undoubtedly a beauty.

Speed-wise, the Audi Q3 is comparatively 1.1 seconds off the mark in comparison to the GLA-class’ zero-to-60-mph time of 6.3 seconds.

Reminiscent of the Q3, the 2022 GLA-class is also powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that drives the front of all four wheels. As Like the Q3, they are also paired with a silky smooth eight-speed automatic that rises to give peak graceful performance.

The two 2.0-liter petrol turbo units are, however,  221 horsepower whereas the Q3 packs a horsepower of between 184 and 228.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA-class SUV will set you out of pocket in between $36,000 and $38,000. Well within the price range of the Q3.

Perhaps this is because, akin to the four-door, five-seater Q3, the GLA Class’ five seats are too comfortable and sporty-as you might expect of German engineering.

Fuel consumption for the 2022 Audi A3 is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen. It is available with the following fuel types: — and PULP. Likewise, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is available in several variants and body types that are powered by — 95 RON or Premium Unleaded fuel, PULP, and Diesel fuel type(s).

The Audi A3 currently offers fuel consumption from 4.9 to 6.7L/100km.  On the other hand, the GLA class has an estimated fuel consumption starting from 6.2L/100kmthe SUV /PULP for the latest year the model was manufactured.

When it comes to towing capacity, exactly like the Q3, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class has a maximum braked towing capacity of 2000kg for the latest model available.

3. 2022 BMW X1

The elegant BMW X1 in light blue colorway at the Frankfurt International Auto Show.

Aside from the fact that, like the Q3, the BMW X1 also has a desirable sexy shape, both are small, playful, practical, and affordable made by traditionally expensive brands. Like the Q3, the little beauty that is the BMW X1 also comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Topping it all, both the Q3 and BMW X1  carry and reflect the unmistakable crossover design, superior quality, and pedigree of both the Audi and BMW brands.

The result is this vehicle’s all-wheel-drive speed of  0-60 miles per hour as 6.4-seconds against the Q3’s one-second slower speed of 0-60 miles per hour in 7.4 seconds.

The  BMW X1’s 228-hp turbocharged engine is a perfect match for the Q3’s premium trim. Both are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

What gets my money out of my pocket about the BMW X1 is its combination of both luxury and practicality. Unlike the Q3, the BMW X1’s spacious cargo area provides ample room for cargo and then some. Its rear seats easily fold flat and make more room for bulkier items.

Maybe because of its cargo capacity, the BMW X1 does not mention towing capacity, whereas the Q3 boasts a towing capacity of 2000kg and not much boot space.

Both cars’ exterior and interior designs are breathtaking and of premium quality. Their generally spacious interior is graced by the latest in gadgetry.

Priced between USD36,000 and USD46, 000, the BMW X1 is within the price range of the Q3. Both come standard with five seats.

As with Q3, fuel consumption for the 2022 BMW X1 is dependent on the type of engine, transmission, or model chosen. The BMW X1  offers fuel consumption from 4.7 to 6.1L/100km. In comparison, the Audi A3’s fuel consumption is from 4.9 to 6.7L/100km. Like the Q3, the BMW X1 is available with the following fuel types: PULP and Diesel.

Like the Q3, the all-wheel-drive X1 delivers 22mpg in the city. However, on the highway, the Q3 gives 30mpg whereas the X1 does 29 mpg.

4. Mazda CX5

Much is known about the mainstream compact crossover, the Mazda CX-5. This is perhaps because, like the Q3, of its affordability- despite its internal and external elegance.

Attractive bodywork, smoother surfaces on the front and rear, coupled with a distinctive grille, three-dimensional mesh texture, and wings extending outwards toward the reshaped LED headlights make the CX-5, like the Audi Q3, pleasurable eye candy.

When it comes to speed, the CX-5 is slightly faster than two. It accelerates from 0 to 60mph within 6.1 and 7.2 seconds, depending on the model grade.

The CX-5’s standard 187-hp four-cylinder engine is closer to that of the Q3 than most. For most, however, the new Turbo trim best exemplifies the CX-5. It comes with an upgraded 256-hp turbocharged engine, and 28 more horsepower than the Q3.

The Q3 and CX-5 are in the same price range-though the Q3 is more expensive, as it starts in the region of $38,000. Notably, and understandably, however, the CX-5 price peaks at $40,000 whereas the Q3 does so at $43,000.

With two engine options, the CX-5 has two fuel-economy ratings. Akin to the Outlander, the CX-5’s base 2.5-liter engine is also rated at 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The more powerful turbocharged engine is rated more poorly on 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

The two cars’ numerous similarities extend to their conventional five seats and four doors. Similarities between the CX-5 and Q3 also extend towing capacity. The CX-5 has a comparative towing capacity of 1800kg-to the Q3’s 2000kg.

5. 2023 BMW X2

BMW X2 car parked at dirt road in mountains.

2023 X2 exudes a style that is very much like that of the Q3. In addition, similar to the Q, all X2 models come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. To top it all, are the BMW X2’s front-end design and gold exterior trim accents, which resonate with those of the Q3.

However, while the X2’s exterior design is expressive, its interior is not like the Q3’s. All the same, its cabin is well-built and nicely outfitted. Like the Q3’s driving position, that of the BMW X2 is great, but not as a techie. At best, all the BMW X2’s controls are within reach.

With a 0 to 60mph speed of 6.4 seconds, the BMW X2’s standard powertrain is that of the X1. Interestingly, both bring to the table a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, and. eight-speed automatic transmission, However, the BMW has front-wheel drive, whereas the Q3 has all-wheel-drive.

Akin to the Q3, for you to drive the X2, you are looking at round $38,000 and upwards.

Fuel economy-wise, the all-wheel-drive X2s do up to 7.4/100km or 31 mpg. Comparatively efficient for its segment, the X2 compares favorably to the Q3’s 22mpg in the city and 30 on the highway.

Seats come standard in both at five a piece.

The BMW X2’s towing capacity generally ranges from 1700kg to 1800kg. Less than the Q3’s but close enough.

6. 2023 Kia Sportage

Side view look of white kia sportage parked at the city street.

Similar to the Q3, the 2023 Kia Sportage’s interior is comparatively spacious. Both notably distinguish themselves with their extroverted styling. The Kia’s unconventional features: a set of alien-looking headlights and a distinct grille design somewhat mimic that of the Q3.

Car performance depends on the chosen engine. At 0 to 60 mph in 8.0 and 8.8 seconds, the Sportage is some 0.6 seconds slower than the Q3.

When it comes to horsepower, akin to the Q3, in the Kia this is provided by an almost similar 187-hp four-cylinder. In addition to this, the 2023 Sportage also has a 226-hp hybrid powertrain that is again almost a match to the Q3’s maximum horsepower.

The hybrid variant mixes a turbocharged 1.6-liter four with a single electric motor to generate a combined 226 horses. As with the Q3, either powertrain can be paired with front- or all-wheel drive.

In terms of price, the Kia peaks at $38,000, whereas the Q3 starts at the same. However, when it comes to seating, both the Kia Sportage and Q3 are five-seaters-two in the first row and three in the second.

The Kia Sportage’s fuel consumption is from 6.3 to 8.1L/100km- higher than the Q3.  Except for ULP, the Kia Sportage is powered by different fuel types: Diesel, ULP, and Hyb. Despite this, the Sportage with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder is rated for 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway-closer to the Q3’s.

Towing capacities can vary wildly on a large number of factors. These include engine, transmission, model, and options chosen. The Kia Sportage’s towing capacity ranges from 1650kg to 1900kg-just 100kg less than the Q3.

7. Hyundai Tucson

Side view angle of the all new Hyundai Tucson in a light blue.

Arguably going head-to-head with the Q3’s other contenders, is the Hyundai Tucson. Although not externally similar to the Q3, Tucson’s engine, horsepower, and city and highway fuel consumption more or less speak to that of the Q3.  What I  particularly found impressive is the wide range of horsepower, transmission, and performance the Tucson brings to the table.

Almost like the Q3, the Tucson offers 187-hp powered by a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder. This works together with an eight-speed automatic on either the front or an all-wheel drive.

However, very different from the Q3 is the fact that the Tucson is also available in turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and plug-in hybrid models augmented by an electric motor. The result of which is a combined 227-hp in the former and 261-hp in the latter. All-wheel drive comes standard with the electrified powertrains and both work with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Speed-wise, the Tucson’s more powerful hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are quick to get to 60 mph. They do so in 7.1 seconds, while its all-wheel-drive Limited vehicle makes it to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds-1.4 seconds slower than the fastest Q3. And what does this mean in terms of pricing?

Depending on the model that finally wins your interest, the Hyundai Tucson is priced from an SE modest $26,000 to a plug-in hybrid high of $44,000.  This is both cheaper and more expensive than both the standard and the premium Q3s, respectively.

As in Q3, seating in the Tucson comes conventional at five passengers.

According to EPA estimates, nonhybrid versions of the 2022 Tucson should deliver as high as 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with front-wheel drive. This is almost in the same range as Q3’s fuel consumption.

In case the list above is still not exhaustive enough for you, you might also research the following cars that are more or less similar to the Audi Q3: 2022 Kia Sorento (Cost range: $31-49,000); 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe (Cost range: $28-47,000); 2023 Hyundai Palisade (Cost range:$36-50,000); 2023 Kia Telluride (Cost range:$35-49,000) and the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (Cost range:$43-69,000) for possible similarities. Good luck!
