2022 Nissan GT-R

The legendary Nissan GT-R continues until 2022. It is one of the most powerful supercars you can buy today, even competing with more expensive supercars.

While the exterior styling has continued to progress, the interior hasn’t caught up with modern times. Nissan offers four trims, starting at $115,000 and up to $220,000.

We’d suggest going with the Premium trim, which happens to be the base trim. Its pricing keeps it competitive with more expensive supercars. After all, the GT-R was built to be a budget-friendly supercar that could outduel more expensive supercars.

The GT-R comes standard with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 that makes 565-horsepower. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard. 0-60 takes the GT-R only 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 195 mph. Higher trims use the same engine, though they make more horsepower through engine tuning.

Fuel economy is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The GT-R has a comfy interior if you’re not sitting in the back. All models come equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay comes standard, but Android Auto is not offered.

Cars Similar to 2022 Nissan GT-R

If you’re in the market for a new supercar and the Nissan GT-R interests you, I have made a list of some alternatives to consider before making a final decision. Some of the similar attributes are

  • Price
  • Speed
  • Trims
  • Powertrains and more

1. 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo

The all new Porsche 911 Turbo 2022 model photograped with mesmerizing sunset on the background.

The Porsche 911 Turbo has an expensive price tag but does offer a lot for that price. It has a sporty exterior, great handling, and can accelerate much faster than most cars in this segment. Four trims are available and prices start at $175,650 up to $221,150.

Porsche uses a 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine making 572-horsepower. The Turbo S model makes 640-horsepower and uses the same engine.

All-wheel drive is standard as is 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. 0-60 takes only 2.6 seconds in the 911 Turbo and it has a top speed of 205 mph.

We would suggest going with the Turbo S model. It unlocks the full potential of the engine, a better infotainment system, and a carbon-fiber interior. The 911 Turbo gets an estimated 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Though the 911 Turbo can seat up to four people, the rear seats aren’t suitable for adults. The interior is very modern and fits the high price.

There is a front trunk, a frunk, in place of a normal trunk. Safety features such as automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warnings are also available.

2. 2022 Porsche 911 GT3

Front angle of the brand new 2022 model Porsche 911 GT3 in red colorway spotted parking outdoors in France.

The Porsche 911 GT3 is very similar to the 911 Turbo, except it is more track-focused. It has upgraded suspension and better steering, and provides a more exciting experience for drivers. Prices start at $162,450 up to $200,000 with three trims available.

We recommend going with the base model GT3. It provides an exhilarating experience but is more tamed for the streets. Base models use a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine that makes 502-horsepower.

This can be had with either a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual. 0-60 takes only 2.7 seconds and the top speed is 198 mph.

The interior is very minimalist, though no rear seats are offered. A 10.9-inch touchscreen display is standard across all models and can be controlled via the steering wheel.

Fuel economy is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway for the automatic transmission. Manual transmission options are 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

3. 2022 Audi R8

The all new 2020 Audi R8 in metallic black colorway parking at the port with reflection seen on water.

Audi’s R8 is perhaps one of the most iconic cars of this generation, and with production slated to end in 2023, now is the time to get your hands on one.

It is known as the supercar and you can drive daily without much discomfort. 0-60 takes the R8 3.4 seconds and it reaches a top speed of 204 mph.

Audi offers four trims with pricing ranging from $151,895 up to $216,695. We’d recommend the V10 Spyder trim. This trim is a convertible, and who doesn’t love riding around with the top down? You still get an extremely powerful engine, just with more flash.

The R8 comes standard with a 5.2-liter V10 that can produce up to 602-horsepower. It can be had in either AWD or RWD. While it is a fun car to drive, you can experience a lot of shaking when shifting gears, due to the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

A Virtual Cockpit gauge comes standard, with the ability to control the system with voice controls. The interior is luxurious, but unlike the GT-R, it can only seat two people.

RWD models earn 14 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. AWD models can expect 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

4. 2022 Dodge Challenger Hellcat

The badass looking 2022 Dodge Challenger Hellcat in matte black colorway.

The Dodge Challenger Hellcat is a gas-guzzling, high-performance American muscle car. It has up to 797-horsepower and can reach from 0-60 in as little as 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 203 mph. Pricing starts at $68,125 up to $87,025 with 6 trims offered.

We’d suggest going with the Widebody trim. It has wider fenders and also handles better than the base trim. While it only has 707 horsepower, it can put the power to the wheels much better than higher trims.

The Hellcat comes standard with a 6.2-Liter supercharged V8 that can make anywhere between 707-horsepower up to 797-horsepower, and the higher numbers are achieved through tuning. Rear-wheel-drive is standard for all models, with no option for all-wheel-drive.

Fuel economy for the Hellcat is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, though this can only be accomplished with conservative driving. A leather interior, SRT badging, and ventilated front seats are all standard.

5. 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Front view angle of the brand new 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in blue and white colorway.

Ford’s Mustang Shelby GT500 is the most powerful car Ford has ever built. The sensation you get from driving this car is hard to put into words. It was built with the track in mind, and this is very apparent in the performance. Pricing starts at $80,815 up to $127,895.

Only two trims are available and we suggest going with the base trim. We would also suggest adding the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, which offers a lot of weight savings.

The GT500 is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that makes 760-horsepower. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. RWD is standard, and there is no option for AWD. 0-60 takes 3.4 seconds and the top speed is 180 mph.

Fuel economy for fuel economy is rated at 12 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. The GT500 doesn’t provide much when it comes to driving assist aids, though it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

6. 2022 Lexus LC500

The all new Lexus LC500 in red colorway spotted parking at a seaside with big piled rocks in the background.

If you’re looking for a fast, luxurious car that can turn heads, the Lexus LC500 may be the right car for you. Two engine options are available- a 3.5-liter V-6 paired with two electric motors that make 354-horsepower, and a 5.0-liter V-8 that makes 471-horsepower. V-8 trims are paired with a 10-speed automatic, while hybrid models use a CVT transmission.

Lexus offers five trims with pricing starting at $94,125 up to $104,315. We’d suggest the base LC500 trim because it offers a more powerful V-8 engine and is much lighter.

You can also get the touring package which offers leather upholstery, a Mark Levinson audio system, parking sensors, and more. This trim is also offered in either a convertible or coupe.

Hybrid models earn a combined 29 mpg, while the V-8 models can expect 19 mpg combined. It takes the LC500 4.6-seconds to reach 0-60 and it has a top speed of 168 mph.

7. 2021 Mercedes Benz AMG GT

Luxurious and elegant 2021 Mercedenz Benz AMG GT in gray and yellow green colorway in display at the Mercedenz Auto Dealership showroom.

Compared to every car in this segment, the AMG GT has perhaps the most forceful racing appearance. The AMG GT has a very long front end and has very cramped cabin space.

Base GTs earn 16 mpg city and 22 highway, GT C trims earn 15 mpg city and 21 highway, while GT R Pro earns 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway.

Eight trims are offered from Mercedes with pricing starting at $119,650 up to $326,050 for the highest trim. The GT roadster would be our preferred pick. The roadster has a drop-top, a leather interior, larger wheels, hands-free entry and so much more.

All models come standard with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power output varies depending on the model.

Base models produce 523-horsepower while higher trims can make up to 720-horsepower. 0-60 takes 2.9 seconds and the top speed is 202 mph.

The interior is well equipped with great build quality. The interior is very cramped, but the driving position is perfect for the track. While the AMG GT isn’t as fast as some of the other cars in this segment, its styling makes it one of the most attractive.

8. 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

The all awaited upcoming 2023 Chevrolet Corvette photographed featured in orange colorway ready to be marketed.

The all-new Corvette offers supercar performance and beautiful design, with an affordable price tag. Old Corvettes used a front engine, but Chevrolet has decided to go with a mid-engine for these new models. It takes the Corvette just 2.8 seconds to achieve 0-60 and it has a top speed of 184 mph.

Chevrolet offers four trims and prices start at $63,195 up to $80,000. We’d recommend the 2LT trim since it offers heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring, and much more. It also comes standard as a coupe, which means the roof is removable.

A 6.2-liter V-8 is standard across all models, which makes 490-horsepower. It is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and RWD is the only option. The car can be started with the push of a button or via paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel.

The fuel economy is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. This is rather impressive compared to most cars in this segment.

It can seat only two people, though the controls are oriented more towards the driver. The interior is very fancy and a big upgrade from previous models.

9. 2022 Acura NSX

Brand new 2022 Acura NSX in cherry red colorway being showcased in an auto show exhibit.

The legendary Acura NSX continues until 2022. It has a stylish interior, and the only powertrain is a twin-turbo V-6 paired with three electric motors.

Electric-only mode is available, so there’s no need to wake up your neighbors in the morning. The NSX is the perfect supercar to drive daily.

Only one trim is available, and it starts at $171,495. Acura doesn’t offer different trims, it prefers customers to customize the cars to fit their preferences. You can customize the interior and exterior colors, the colors of the brakes, engine performance, and much more.

It takes the NSX 2.9 seconds to reach from 0-60 and it has a top speed of 191 mph. Fuel economy is rated at 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

While the interior is extremely comfortable, it does lack the styling of other competitors. The infotainment system could use some modern upgrades and it is very unintuitive.

While the NSX doesn’t offer as much performance as some of its rivals, its overall usability makes it unique. There is adequate cargo space and the seats are comfortable enough for longer drives.

10. 2021 Mercedes Benz E63s

Front side view angle of the all new 2021 Mercedes Benz E63s in metallic silver colorway parked outdoors.

Unlike most cars in this segment, the E63s is a full-size sedan that can comfortably seat five people. It starts at $108,550 and, like the NSX, can be tailored to your liking. We would add the Exterior Lighting package that adds automatic high beams and automatic headlights.

The E63s is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes 603-horsepower. This is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and it comes standard with AWD. It takes only 3.0 seconds to reach from 0-60 and has a top speed of 186 mph.

The fuel economy isn’t the greatest, as it earns 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The interior is spacious and luxurious, utilizing great materials. Features such as ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a 12.3-inch display are all standard.

Driving in standard modes provides a soft riding experience, but switching to Sport or Sport + achieves a whole new experience. Changing gears is blazing fast and the suspension is perfectly fine-tuned.

The E63s complete the standing quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds at 128 mph. This makes it competitive with actual supercars, though the E63s have the benefit of carrying five passengers.

11. Jaguar F-Type

White colorway Jaguar F Type in display at Barcelona International Motor Show.

This automobile appeals to me due to its exotic styling and performance, which include a powerful V-8 engine and a throat-clearing exhaust note. This vehicle can reach 186mph and go from zero to 60 in under 3.5 seconds.

There are two types to choose from: coupes starting at $71,500 and convertibles at $74,500. Gas mileage of 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway are offered.

Premium unleaded fuel is required for the 5.0L Intercooled Supercharged V-8 engine. Only two passengers can fit in this vehicle, and it only has two doors.

It’s also a convertible with an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission with QuickShift ZF. At RPM, it has a net horsepower of 444@6000 SAE.

12. Maserati GranTurismo

Front side view angle of the elegant Maserati Granturismo in metallic red colorway.

Starting from $154,075 this four-seater offers a city/hwy fuel efficiency of 13/20.

You get the Coupe and Convertible Sport as well as MC trim levels which can reach a top speed of 187mph. In 4.7 seconds, the convertible goes from zero to 60 in the Coupe.

The outside features gorgeous curves, and the interior is luxurious. As a whole, it’s a high-performance automobile. The 4.7-liter V8 engine in every GranTurismo car makes 460 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, and it can rev as high as 7,500 revolutions per minute.

In addition, all Italian V8s are noted for their distinctive sound, which is naturally aspirated. A rear seat in the GranTurismo is only suitable for children, even though it has a back seat. Leather and faux-suede upholstery are used for more than just the seats.

The dashboard is covered in cowhide, and the seatbacks have the Maserati trident logo embroidered onto them as well. The 8.4-inch screen in the Maserati Quattroporte runs on the Touch Control Plus software.
