2022 GMC Sierra

There are five trim levels to select from, with prices starting at $40,895. This truck has a powerful diesel engine, a great tailgate and trailer-assist system, and possibly the most responsive handling in the HD class. In 5.5 seconds, it can go from zero to sixty miles per hour (mph) in under one second.

No matter how much chrome and leather GMC’s 2500HD and 3500HD models sport, its ability to produce a powerful and dependable performance remains superb.

Both the Duramax diesel engine and the tailgate can be used for a variety of purposes. You can tow 18,500 lbs with the 2500HD and 35,500 lbs with the 3500HD.

Trying to find a Sierra to pull your boat or RV, sports car, camping gear, or other goods? Here’s a list of trucks capable of competing with or even exceeding the performance of the Sierra with towing capacity, fuel economy, speed, seating, and more. So keep reading for all you need to know about the ideal truck for you!

1. Ram 1500 Classic

The badass looking RAM 1500 classic parked at a shore with a windmill in the background.

The Ram 1500 has achieved one more top full-size pickup rank by subduing its main competitors across the globe. The following are a few other reasons why I appreciate this truck even more: EcoDiesel V-6 engine offers the highest power and torque among light-duty diesel trucks, but it’s also fuel-efficient; the cabin is about several notches above its rivals, and it just drives fantastic.

Starting at $36,195 for the base model, you get a 260 horsepower engine. There are also three other engines available: a 3.0L turbodiesel V-6 featuring 305 hp, a V-6 with 395 hp eTorque, plus a 5.7-liter V-8 with 395 hp. The V-8 5.7L featuring an eTorque engine comes with an automatic transmission that’s 8-speed. Its maximum towing capacity is 12,500 pounds.

2. Ram 1500 TRX

Front sideview angle of the all new RAM 1500 TRX in red colorway parked at the seaside.

If you’ve ever wanted to show off your truck’s size, the Ram 1500 TRX is the vehicle for you. With its 702-hp Hellcat engine, this is the quickest truck I’ve ever test-driven, accelerating to 60mph in 3.7 seconds. As a result of its Bilstein dampers, the Goodyear Wrangler 35-inch AT tires might dip.

It’s larger and higher than a typical 1500, yet inside it’s just as luxurious as the standard model. Additional features include heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, carbon-fiber inlays, and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Unlike other vehicles, this one is capable of cruising, ascending, and even soaring over obstacles.

Starting at $75,275, the base trim is the most affordable option. A supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine connected to an automatic transmission. 8,100 pounds is the maximum weight that may be pulled behind this vehicle.

3. 2023 Ford F-150

The upcoming and most awaited model of the famous Ford F 150 in a red and white colorway captured during test drive.

As of this year, Ford F-series pickup trucks have been the most popular car in the United States for the past 14 years. The basic twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine gets 30 more horsepower and 70 more pound-feet of torque owing to a PowerBoost 430-hp hybrid.

Warmed seats, steering wheels, and steering columns are standard equipment on this car. The front seats have vents to keep you cool in the summer. Tracks 1 and 2 both have similar entertainment and educational resources. Except for a few millimeters, all beds are nearly the same size.

In this configuration, it has a maximum towing capacity of 12,700 pounds. A Work Surface can be added to the front row so you can use it as a work table. While standard on the King Ranch and higher trim levels but available on all others as an option, the all-new variable-assist steering system for 2018 offers a responsive and precise feel behind the wheel.

The Tremor is an F-150 with a somewhat Raptor-like posture that is geared at off-roading. Towing capacity up to 14,000 pounds and a 10-speed automatic transmission is included in the $30,985 base price.

4. 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2022 model Ford 150 F Raptor in a metallic black colorway spotted parking beside the street.

The Ford F-150 Raptor will take to the skies in 2022 thanks to the latest F-series technology. All-terrain 37-inch BFGoodrich KO2 tires are available for Raptor’s landing gear.

The mixture of a multi-link rear suspension plus Fox Racing variable compression shocks improves the rugged terrain experience. There are now only two powertrain options: a 450-hp twin-turbo V-6 and a 10-speed automatic.

The Raptor R, a V-8-powered, supercharged model, has already been shown off. The F-150’s monstrous fenders and three ambers LED lights in the grille set it apart from the rest of the rigs on the market sporting big tires. A single tank of petroleum in the Raptor can tow 8200 pounds and travel 576 miles.

The starting price of $65,840 includes both an automatic transmission and a 450-horsepower 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 engine. The vehicle’s maximum towing capability is 8000 pounds.

5. 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500

In preparation for the 2022 model year, Chevrolet has given the Silverado 1500 another facelift. The LT and above trim levels have a big 13.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, as well as a new external design.

The Silverado, like the Sierra, is capable of towing large loads, has comparable top speeds, and offers a variety of upscale options.

Up to six of the 6.2-liter V-8’s cylinders can be deactivated for better fuel economy, but it still generates 420 horsepower. Additionally, there are two turbodiesel engines: a 277-horsepower turbodiesel and a 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can tow up to 9300 pounds. The Silverado’s EPA highway rating is 31 mpg (when fitted to RWD trims).

Chevy offers specially modified bumpers for the ZR2 to help with approaching and leaving angles as an off-road option. This particular model can only be had in crew cab configurations with a 2.5-inch lift. With a starting price of $28,195, you could pull up to 13,300 pounds. At 114 mph, the car reaches 60mph in under six seconds.

6. 2022 Toyota Tundra

The all new Toyota Tundra 2022 model in metallic black colorway in the Miami International Auto Show 2015.

The Toyota Tundra is in an unusual position in the full-size truck sector since it’s the most recent model. The third-generation Tundra now offers a  hybrid V-6 437-horsepower twin-turbo with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Only the non-hybrid SR models are offered with a 389-hp variant of the same engine at various trim levels. The max speed is 165 miles per hour, and the 0-60 mph time is 6.6 seconds.

For the rear suspension, coil springs have replaced the original leaf springs, which have been replaced by a more controlled design. The Tundra TRD Pro model selection includes raised suspension, skid plates, and black rims wrapped in large all-terrain tires.

The Tundra’s extended and crew cab variants come with two different bed lengths: 6.5 feet and 8.1 feet. However, a 14-inch touchscreen, the largest in its class, can be ordered as an option.

You may choose between a:

  • 348-horsepower basic engine,
  • a 389-horsepower 3.5L V-6 twin-turbo,
  • a 437-horsepower 3.5L V-6 twin-turbo, and
  • a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6

You pay a starting price of $37,645 for the base trim. The maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds gets help from the transmission’s 10-speed automated mode.

7. 2022 Nissan Titan

Front side view angle of the all new Nissan Titan in gray colorway displayed at the Nissan Auto Dealership store in Detroit.

A few Nissan Titans exist that don’t fit into the mainstream. The Titan’s customization is severely hampered by the availability of only one 400-horsepower V-8 engine, and its overall performance appears to be lacking. A trailer hitch and a bed liner will come standard on Nissan’s entry-level pickups by 2022.

The Titan has not become any faster as a result of the new standard perks. In 7.76 seconds, it goes from zero to 60 miles per hour and has a 110 mph top speed. Riding on and maneuvering the Titan is a chore. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard equipment on every version of the Model 3, unlike the fleet versions of its local competitors.

You can buy the 5.6L V-8 and 9-speed automatic transmission for $38,145 in the base model, which is capable of producing 400 horsepower. Towing capability for this vehicle is 9660 pounds.

8. 2022 Honda Ridgeline

Brand new Honda Ridgeline in silver colorway in display at the Honda Showroom dealership salon.

The Ridgeline’s starting price of $37,640 makes it an attractive option for truck enthusiasts who don’t need all the features of a pickup truck. Rear-suspension control ensures nimble handling, due to its V-6 engine plus basic all-wheel drive. You’ll have a pickup that is both desirable and useful if you consider the 2022 Ridgeline’s numerous standard safety features and quiet, well-appointed interior.

At 130mph, it’s able to reach 60mph in 7.2 seconds. The 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which produces 280 hp plus 262 pound-feet of torque, is standard. The transmission is a nine-speed automatic. A 5000-pound towing capability is listed for the Ridgelines, which come standard with all-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It can carry more than 1600 pounds.

9. 2022 Rivian R1T

Front view of the brand new 2022 model Rivian R1T in full silver colorway in display at the auto car show exhibit.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is a modernistic all-electric full-size pickup with a starting price of $79,500 and an anticipated range of 314 miles thanks to its four electric motors and lightning-fast acceleration. According to Rivian, each R1T has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 1760 lbs. This vehicle can reach a top speed of 115 mph.

A quad-motor system and a battery of 128.9 kWh will be the only options for the R1T in its first year of production. It is projected that a new dual-motor option that generates more than 600 horsepower will be available in 2023, paired with a smaller standard battery and a larger “Max” battery.

It has two trim levels, but I like the Adventure because it has a Meridian stereo system, heated and ventilated front seats, better upholstery, and wood inside trim. In terms of MPGe, the quad-motor R1T can get 74 in the city and 66 on the highway.

There is a separate electric motor on each of the Rivian’s wheels. The R1T can reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and has an impressive 835 hp. Over 600 horsepower will be generated with all-wheel drive.

For the R1T, Rivian calls it a “Tank Turn” because the electric motors are set up to rotate the left wheels in the opposite direction of their right counterparts, so allowing the truck’s axis of rotation to be spun.

10. 2022 GMC Hummer EV

Badass looking GMC Huummer EV in silver colorway with parked in the desert.

A starting price of $110,295 makes the new truck a monster with up to 1000 hp from its highest powertrain alternative, which employs three electric motors, has an estimated range of 329 miles per charge, and a sprint to 60 mph in an estimated 3.0 seconds. Additionally, the Hummer EV comes equipped with detachable roof panels, an alternative air suspension, and an innovative four-wheel steering method that enables it to “crab” laterally.

GMC claims that the Hummer EV’s maximum towing capacity is 7500 pounds. GM’s innovative Ultium battery-pack technology powers the Hummer EV, which has a claimed range of 329 miles on a single charge. A 350-kilowatt fast-charging capacity on the Hummer’s 800-volt electrical design adds 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes, GMC claims.

The EPA estimates that the Hummer EV will get 51 MPGe in the city, 43 MPGe on the highway, and 47 MPGe in total. The 106 mph top speed of the five-seater vehicle is impressive.

The LX starts at $38,190 yet the Limited goes up to $88,325 when outfitted to its maximum potential. At 5750 rpm, 385 horsepower is available. With a towing capacity of 15,000 pounds, you can tow anything.

The diesel engine’s many advantages include more than 1050 pound-feet of torque, a plethora of enticing technological features, and a roomy crew cab. It has a top speed of 96 mph and takes 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.

For the vast majority of people, a 2022 Ford Super Duty is unnecessary. However, for those who are truly in need, it is a powerful tool. To complete the V-8 selection, there are two other diesel engines: a 6.7-liter with 1050 lb-ft of torque and a 7.3-liter with 473 pound-feet of torque.

In addition to towing and hauling 7850 pounds, a fully armed and equipped Super Duty can tow up to 37,000 pounds with ease.

12. Ram 2500

Close up front view photo of the Ram 2500 in metallic silver colorway in display at the Chrysler dealership.

There’s a lot to like about the $41,955 Ford F-150 Super Duty, including its superior handling, huge maximum torque, and towing capacity. They will be capable of towing like a semi-truck while pampering their passengers with unrivaled luxury features in 2022. The top speed is 120 mph, but it takes 8.8 seconds to get from zero to 60 mph.

No other heavy-duty vehicle comes close to matching Ram’s combination of comfortable ride and high-end interior amenities. Indeed, the RAM HD group doesn’t forget where it came from. The enormous choice of trim levels, body types, and powertrains, which comprise everything from a 1075lb-ft Cummins diesel engine to a 410-hp Hemi V-8 you can tailor to meet any budget or job description.

The new 2022 Ram 2500 and 3500 have a slew of modern infotainment features and helpful assistance that make it simpler for drivers to tow a trailer and control these massive vehicles in potentially frightening situations, like congested traffic or tight quarters. Depending on the trim level, you can tow anything from 16,870 to 37,090 pounds.

13. Nissan Titan XD

Starting at $47,575 for each of the four grades, several sought-after features are included, along with a better experience and more comfy chairs. A crew cab and a 400-hp V-8 are the only options for Nissan’s biggest truck.

The basic 5.6-liter V-8 engine is quiet and smooth. This car has a torque of 413 lb-ft and a horsepower of 400. Four-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission are also included as standard equipment. With a gooseneck hitch, the Titan XD can only haul 11,040 pounds. A conventional trailer decreases the Nissan’s weight to 10,880 pounds.

S and SV models have a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay built-in.
